Types of rentals in Maple Ridge
Brookside's managed portfolio spans a range of residential property types. None of them is guaranteed to be available at a given moment — what we manage reflects what owners have entrusted to us — but knowing the differences helps you search well.
Detached houses
Family homes with yards, garages or driveways, often in established or newer subdivisions. This is the most searched category in Maple Ridge and has its own dedicated guide.
Condominium apartments
Lower-maintenance homes, frequently closer to Dewdney Trunk Road, Lougheed Highway and transit. Strata bylaws can affect pets, parking, laundry and move-in scheduling.
Townhomes
A middle ground between an apartment and a house — multi-level living, usually with a garage or assigned parking, sometimes with a small yard or patio.
Suites & other residential homes
Legal suites, ground-level units and other residential arrangements. Shared services, separate entrances and utility apportionment vary, so read the listing terms closely.

How to rent well in Maple Ridge
Renting here is less about luck than about being decisive and prepared. These are the things that most often make the difference between a smooth move and a frustrating search.
Choosing your area first
Renters who decide on two or three acceptable areas before touring make faster, better decisions. Think about how far you are willing to drive daily, whether you want to walk to shops, and how comfortable you are with a rural setting in winter.
Commute, transit and access
Maple Ridge is served by the Lougheed Highway and Dewdney Trunk Road corridors, the Golden Ears Bridge to Langley, and West Coast Express and bus service toward Vancouver. Where you live within the city changes your daily commute far more than most renters expect.
Parking that actually fits
Count your vehicles honestly, including work vehicles, trailers and visitor needs. A home with one assigned stall is a different proposition from a double garage with a driveway, and this is rarely negotiable after the fact.
Pets and household composition
Pet terms are set by the property and, in stratas, by bylaws. Being specific and upfront about pets and about who will live in the home gets an application reviewed faster than one that has to be revised.
Utilities and total monthly cost
Compare homes on total monthly cost, not rent. What is included differs by property, and a slightly higher rent with utilities included can be the cheaper home once hydro, gas and internet are counted.
Preparing your application
Assemble identification, income or employment verification, and landlord references for each adult before you tour. This is the difference between applying the same day and losing a home while you gather paperwork.
Timing your search
Rentals are usually advertised for near-term occupancy. Prepare early, then search seriously about four to six weeks out, and check the portal frequently rather than once a week.
Searching safely
Do not send deposits for a home you have not viewed and have no signed agreement for. Brookside rentals are advertised through our own portal and our office, and applications are submitted there.
Where to live
Maple Ridge neighbourhood context
Maple Ridge covers a large area, and the difference between neighbourhoods is real. West Maple Ridge and Hammond are the older, more walkable parts of the city and sit nearest the West Coast Express corridor. Albion and Cottonwood are newer and family-oriented. Silver Valley climbs toward Golden Ears Provincial Park. East Maple Ridge, Thornhill and Whonnock become genuinely rural, with larger lots, wells and septic systems in places, and longer drives to services.
Pitt Meadows, immediately west, is flatter, smaller and closer to the Lougheed corridor and the West Coast Express station, and we manage and sell there as well. Our area guides below are written for buyers but give an honest picture of each neighbourhood's character, which is exactly what a renter deciding where to search needs.
